Bessie Smith’s Big 9 Music Fest

Formerly the Big 9 Roots Festival, the Bessie Smith Cultural Center is excited to announce their annual music festival with a new name, Bessie Smith’s Big 9 Music Fest. On Saturday, April 15 and Sunday, April 16, the Bessie Smith Cultural Center will host Bessie Smith’s Big 9 Music Fest along the 200 block of East MLK Boulevard. Join us for a community celebration of Bessie Smith’s life on her 129th birthday. Food trucks and local art and merchandise will be on site for purchase. Both days are FREE to attend and are family friendly.

This year’s festival is presented by TVFCU.

 Saturday, April 15 12:00pm – 11:00pm

R & B artists will be performing throughout the day  on the BlueCross BlueShield of TN Community Foundation Stage

Sunday, April 16 – 1:00pm – 7:00pm

Gospel on the Lawn at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center. Local gospel groups, quartets, and choirs will perform on the BlueCross BlueShield of TN Community Foundation Stage

 

The Bessie Smith Cultural Center and has been developed to highlight and preserve Chattanooga’s rich African American history, and to honor those who have made history and are continuing to make history.
